As mentioned in the previous blogs, Pranayama is the regulation of the breath through a variety of techniques. The manipulation of the life force prana has a balancing and calming effect on the body and mind, making it a great tool to combat anxiety and depression. These techniques do not require any special equipment, you can practice them wherever and at any moment.
Also known as alternate nostril breathing, this technique balances the right and left energy channels.
To practice this, sit in a comfortable position and adopt the pranayama mudra (index and right finger to the palm). With your thumb, press the right nostril and breath in from your left; then release your thumb and block he left nostril with your ring finger, exhaling. To continue, breathe in from your right nostril and breathe out from your left, following the same procedure. Repear for a few breath cycles.
Ujayii pranayama
To practice this technique, partially close your glittoris as you breathe. The sound should resemble the sound of ocean waves. This is beneficial when practicing yoga sequences, to heat up he body and improve thyroid function.
Khapalabhati pranayama
Also known as breath of fire, this purifying technique requires you to forcefully exhale while pulling your navel in towards the spine. This should be repeated in a fast cycle of breaths in a rhythmic pattern. It is advisable to avoid this technique if you are menstruating.
